Abstract
The aim of this paper is to highlight the strategic role of Big Data for the tourism sector. The growing volume of information created all over the world as a consequence of the tourist’s digital footprint, should be seen as an opportunity to better satisfy more dynamic and complex tourist profiles. Hence, this research explores the concept of Big Data, presenting its mains sources for tourism and showing some study cases of success where Big Social Data has been applied. Finally, the main benefits and challenges of Big Data and tourism are considered.
