Main Article Content
The main objective of the article is to analyse the public discourse and the political decisions adopted in the face of the phenomenon of touristification and overtourism in Seville, as a relevant case at Spanish and European level. This main objective is pursued through three secondary objectives: to identify the main agents interested in the subject in this city; to select, through publications in the media, their positions on the key aspects of the debate on the effects of touristification in Seville; and to draw conclusions about the positions of the different agents in relation to the public policies adopted in this respect. The methodology used is based on the qualitative analysis of the discourse expressed by the different actors in the media. Finally, the main conclusion is that there has been an overall failure of governance in dealing with the problem, since, despite the fact that all the agents involved point out the dangers of touristification for the social life of the city at the level of discourse, in reality there is an inability to implement effective measures to deal with these dangers.
