The tourist movements at the local level cause both negative and positive impacts on host society, culture and economy. In order to properly manage and plan the tourist positive dynamics generation is necessary to know why tourists choose these spaces, what space features are most attractive and how these space characteristics affect the tourist choice. After examining the literature on spatial analysis, urban functions and pedestrian movement, the hypothesis that arises is that in urban tourist destination, the routes un-dertaken by tourists during the city discovering are affected by the space perception of physical, functional, sensory, environmental and emotional characteristics. It is based on an exploratory mixed study of the case of Barcelona which combines qualitative and quantitative techniques such as observation of space and translating them into complex maps and a personal survey in key decision nodes to collect tourist space sensing data. This information provides data on spatial and environmental preferences in the choice of routes and what are the space characteristics that determine the choice of tourists.
