Turismo activo y sostenibilidad en Cataluña Una valoración desde el sector privado

Abstract

This paper presents the outcomes of the «Sustainability» section of a project developed during the years 2007 and 2008 for the Catalonia Tourism Observatory under the name of «Management of Active Sports Tourism in Catalonia». Through a participative methodology and through the development of in depth interviews with representatives of the sector, this paper gathers data on the state of the art of adventure tourism enterprises and sustainability in Catalonia, describing main socioeconomic and environmental impacts of the enterprises and pointing out measures to address those impacts. As a result of this analysis, management measures from the perspective of private businesses are proposed. These measures seek to mainstream environmental considerations into decision-making processes and enhance the establishment of constructive relationships with institutions and local stakeholders.
