Abstract
Tourism studies in Spain have evolved from a training programme for professionals, with the Official School of Tourism (Escuela Oficial de Turismo) as the only official centre, in conjunction with private schools under its supervision, to becoming a university degree programme. Since its creation in 1963, tourism studies have come a long way including the integration of undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Rey Juan Carlos University. Tourism documentation has experienced the same evolution, from collections which include the first texts and specialist periodicals in paper found in the School of Tourism’s library to electronic databases and library subscriptions to electronic journals with the highest impact factors.
