Pursuant to Article 5(4)(b) of Royal Decree 425/2013, of 14 June, approving the charter of the Institute of Tourism of Spain, it is the responsibility of the Tourism Institute of Spain, Turespaña, A.O., to analyse “tourism source markets, the development of projections and forecasts on tourist flows, overnight stays and tourism revenue, the analysis of factors that affect the tourism industry and, in particular, the profitability of tourism activity, as well as the collection and dissemination of tourism knowledge and the coordination of information on the tourism sector generated by the different administrative units of the State Secretariat for Tourism and the autonomous organisation, the Tourism Institute of Spain.” The Estudios turísticos journal is produced as a result of this commission.

Secretariat

The journal's secretariat will assist management with its own management and administration tasks.
Their functions are to:
a) Keep minutes of the editorial board meetings and to prepare the meeting agenda.

b) Issue the certificates requested, attesting to the consistency of the accredited facts.

c) Ensure compliance with the policy developed by the editorial board.

d) Review the manuscripts and decide in the first instance which ones should follow the established formal process, taking as reference the ethical and formal aspects of the journal's publication standards.

Editorial Board

The senior-most governing and advisory body of ESTUDIOS TURÍSTICOS is its Editorial Board.
Under the chairmanship of the current Secretary of State for Tourism, the Editorial Board is composed of the Director of the journal, the Deputy Director General of Knowledge and Tourism Studies, the Assistant Deputy Director General of Knowledge and Tourism Studies, the current head of department at the SGCET, the manager of the Spanish Tourism Documentation Centre and the secretary of the journal, as well as figures from the fields of research and education (universities, postgraduate study centres and similar), in active service or retired and of recognised professional prestige.

Ex officio members are those who belong to the Editorial Board by virtue of the position they hold in the Subdirectorate General of Knowledge and Tourism Studies.
The elected members of the Board will be experts of recognised prestige in the areas of tourism, marketing, economics, geography or history, with a number of no less than six and no more than twelve.

Elective members shall be elected for four-year terms by a majority of the Board in an anonymous vote, based on a proposal by the director or at least three members of the Board (except for the members of this first Board, who shall be elected by the ex officio members). They may be renewed by the same procedure, although they may not hold office for more than three consecutive terms. If, for any reason, the Editorial Board deems any changes are necessary during the four-year term, new members will be appointed for the remainder of the four-year term. As regards the criteria of equality, merit, ability and dedication, the Board will ensure diversity in its composition, especially gender diversity, as well as adequate periodic rotation to foster the dynamic nature of the journal.
The Editorial Board shall hold one ordinary meeting per year. Management may call extraordinary meetings of the Board when it considers so necessary, as well as at the request of one-third of its members. Those sitting on the Editorial Board shall receive no pay for doing so and their duties shall include but not be limited to:

a) Advice and definition of the editorial approach;

b) Annual programming proposal, subject to criteria of topicality and timeliness;

c) Proposal for the publication of special issues on topics of special interest or relevance;

d) Obtaining collaborations from potential authors;

e) Direct coordination or identification of coordinators for each issue of the journal;

f) Collaboration in outreach activities;

g) Systematic advice to the Editorial Board.
